Reflection 12

The final take away that I have for this class is about link building and how to do so.  This is something that is new to me and I had never heard of internet businesses doing.  It makes complete sense though.  The more you link then the more valid and legitimate your web business appears to google.  As you continue to grow and link more and more then you appear more popular and google wants to rank you higher in their rankings.  There are many ways to do this.  You can reach out to local businesses or sign up for a listing in a business directory etc.  I have really enjoyed this class and and really learned so much valuable knowledge.  I am sad for the class to end but excited for what comes next in life.

Reflection #11

This week my entry is short.  All I want to remember is that social marketing is important and that there are many ways and sites to do this.  The way I am currently working on is using pinterest.  Basically I have tons of random cool products from across the web.  I will be putting links to my site on things I pin on pinterest.  This will give me free advertising and help my business organically grow.

This week we learned about SEO.  This is a concept that I am still trying to figure out because it is complicated.  We also talked about landing page optimization.  This is where the person is directed to when someone clicks on the link.  This can be improved by haveing matching information with the ad.  You can also ad keywords that match on both the ad and the landing page.  For me currently my home page is the only landing page that I have.  I will continue to research and play around to make the better.

Reflection #9

This week was kind of stressful because I started my ad campaign.  I am nervous because my web business is running on the hopes that I will get lots of traffic from my advertising.  I am basically throwing away money if this doesn’t work right.  I would like to continue working on my web business but if I can’t get the advertising right this could be a little discouraging.  I want to remember that its a work in progress and that there are so many things to tweek and change to effect a positive change.  I will continue to work at it to improve my website.

Reflections #8

This week we learned about installing google analytics and the relevance and quality score of our ads for our ad campaigns.  What I want to take away this week doesn’t so much concern the installing of google ananlytics because all I had to do was obtain the google analytics id tag and then stick it into the website builders site.  This automatically links me up to receive the much needed info and analytics on my web pages.  Then when creating an ad you want to look at several key things.  One of which in the quality score of the ad.  Its out of 10 with 10 being the highest.  It tells you things like how relevant and effective your ad is expected to be.

Reflection #7

This week I want to take away some knowledge of ads.  In the class we looked at each other’s ads and I was really impressed with some and not so much with others.  I thought to myself what could the difference be?  What would make me pick one vs another?  What really made the add for me was you could easily tell what the site did and the add was clever.  I liked one ad in particular that basically said you’re not a dummy if you click on my site.  I think this was super effective.  He was basically saying that we aren’t dummies so you don’t need to learn using those dummies books.  I will continue to think about my ads and refine them and try new ones.

reflection #6

This week has been a good one as far as learning about aspects of the web business and specifically advertising. I want to take away a few key things from this week. I want to remember how to use the keyword planner in my research of how to choose keywords. I want to remember the differences between good keywords and bad keywords. Google suggests using specific two the three word phrases for your keywords. That means that you are not going very broad or going very specific. You make it right in the middle. You need to take a step back and take the biases out of your keywords and see truly what are people going to search for to find your website. I need to remember how to set up the campaign for the keywords. One thing that I need to look into is how to link up certain advertising, SEO and Analytics to my website. It appears that I have some analytics going on through Amazon Affiliates and squarespace.com. A depressing thing from this week is I was rejected by the Amazon Affiliates program due to not having enough unique content on my site. In the end this will be beneficial to me and my site but currently it is a setback so I need to work on adding a blog or unique content to my website. This will eventually be a good experience becuase I won’t forget.

Reflection #5

I am nearing completion of my website for this portion of the class. I still have more plans for it further down the line but I am pretty pleased at where it is at right now. I am excited to launch it and get making more money. This weekly reflection will be a shorter one because of the information that we went over this week as it pertains to my web business. This week we went over legal structures, licenses and taxes. The biggest thing that I will take away from this journal entry is to watch out for the internet tax laws. They are a little complicated and it looks like there’s going to be taxing of affiliate marketing which could be a problem for me or Amazon which in turn is a problem for me. In California all the affiliate marketer’s sites were deactivated so Amazon wouldn’t have to get taxed. They are always going to look out for number one so this is one thing that I need to be aware of. I don’t really need any licenses are legal structures currently but learning about them has been beneficial to plan out what I will do 6 to 12 months down the road. I am excited to launch this business and make our family a little extra side cash!

reflection # 4

I am starting to like these weekly reflections. I like them because it allows me to review what I want to remember from this course and that is something that I have never done before. I wonder about all the things I could have retained and have access to that I thought were important from other courses if I would have done this reflection blog. Well no use crying over spilled milk so I will just maintain this going forward. The things that I want to remember about the site design guidelines is first use similar websites and model yours after theirs. Try to find several similarities between the two sites and list the pros and cons of these differences and similarities. If you choose successful sites you will know what works and you will be able to match that with what you were able to do on your own. From my sites (the awesomer and why Im broke) I learned that it is important to have a picture, a Buy It Now button, social media influence and several other things. This week we also learned about credit card payments.  PayPal is a big player in this category. It was fun to develop a button for specific uses even though I don’t want to use a PayPal button for this web business. I will have to look more into the liability factor because I saw that in some posts. I won’t have to worry about that because I am doing affiliate links through Amazon. I am just directing traffic in there for very little liability if any. I’m excited to continue my website and get it taken care of for next week.
